Mendelssohn - Violin Concerto
Prokofiev - Highlights from Romeo and Juliet
Maya Crawford-Phillips violin
Robert Max conductor
Paul Dukas' scherzo, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, was famously animated in Disney's Fantasia. It amusingly depicts the tale of the young sorcerer who manages to animate a broom to do his household chores for him, but cannot make the broom stop, and the situation escalates.
Mendelssohn's well-loved Violin Concerto is a beautiful elegant work, to be played by the wonderful young violinist Maya Crawford-Phillips.
The ballet music that Prokofiev wrote for Romeo and Juliet gave rise to several orchestral suites.
We will be playing a selection of highlights from this popular and well-loved work.
